Letter R of the word Career






Most people’s focus concerning their jobs is to make money atleast enough to pay their bills. Very few people are set to contribute, to achieve,to make their presence felt at work. Many are still subjected to “as long as mentality””.
However most people don’t realise that, there is an intrinsic need within every individual for growth and progress.Most times the absence of progress or the sense of stagnation results in frustration and discontentment.
The need for significance extend to the workplace also,especially that we spent most of our time at work. Every individual has a need to know that they matter,to know that they are special & unique.
There is a need within every individual to know that they are admired and respected.
At the workplace like any other place, this kind of respect and appreciation that we so desire is never granted but should be earned.

The big question remains:  How do we earn it. 


The simply answer to the question is by producing the beyond expected results, by making a positive and memorable impact within your organisation and in the lives of those you work with.  Inscribe your name within the organisation , by making  your presence & absence felt.
If there are no results or positive impact traceable to your career, frustration and sense of emptiness is inevitable.
Fading into the background at work is  common pitfall–it normally results from  shyness and doubts about how your ideas will be received.
To produce the beyond expected results, one need to rise beyond, timidity,shyness,false humility, as long as I am earning mindset and deliberately push beyond introversion and complacency & resolve to be counted among the movers and shakers within their organisation and industry.

Common traits of movers and shakers within organisations

 Inspire & Influence
Inspire means to stimulate to action. Influence is the power or capacity to produce an effect on the actions, behaviour, opinions of others. In the context of the results we need, we are talking about  positive effect and fruitful action
Our desired, beyond expected results are normally not by individual but by team effort. This basically means one needs the ability to positively influence & inspire others to achieve the results.
Your ability to inspire & influence depends on the :

·                                   Level of trust and respect you have earned overtime

·                                  Your ability to connect and engage

·                                  Ability to make others feel valued, because people never forget how you made them feel.

·                                 Excellent work standard.

The ability to inspire & influence is an extraordinary asset at the work place.

Personal & professional development.

Personal & professional development is about understanding that as an employee you have come to work to add value, to give,to contribute. And this can only be achieved by continuous personal and professional development,for you cannot give what you don’t have.
Continuous personal & professional development comes from the understanding that one’s knowledge is never complete, that there is always room for growth & for more.
Professional development is about  skills you need to succeed in your role.This could be administration skills, writing skills, communication skills, leadership skills. Make a commitment to perfect the skills you know you need to deliver the beyond expected results that will leave your name engraved in the hearts of many.
Professional & Personal development can be facilitated formally or informally. It can be done through reading of relevant books or material, attending trainings& conferences. It can also be done by registering for a formal academic qualification.
Professional development also includes increasing your knowledge about your company’s business and getting involved in projects outside your immediate job description.
Personal Development is the conscious pursuit of personal growth, It is about having the basic motivation to improve your knowledge of self, confidence levels etc

Self-motivation
Self motivation is the driving force behind any success and growth. It is vitally important to producing the beyond expected results It is a sure way to leaving a mark. It is also the best way to inscribe your name not only in the minds of your team members and colleagues but also in the mind of employers.

Self motivated individuals are mostly preferred by employers because they tend to have an ownership mindset, go above and beyond their job description, work longer hours, and need a lot less managing

Their highest quality of work set them apart. Their enthusiastic nature make them a fountain of solutions to diverse challenges.

To remain self motivated

·               Understand that there is good and bad in every office but remain optimistic focus on the
          positive      and surround yourself with like minded people.
·              Create a habit of celebrating your victories no matter how small. Acknowledge and appreciate         yourself even when no one else does.
·                Understand that highest energy wins.  Keep your energy levels high.  
 In conclusion making an impact is not simply about having the skill – It is also about showing the will to get things done, It is about attitude.. It is about believing in yourself, believing in your skills and potential ,believing that you also have something to give, something that can benefit your organisation.
Producing the beyond expected results is about having a raised bar of excellence always. It is about not giving in to negative forces at work,  It is about having a contagious demeanour and presence. It is about knowing yourself, knowing what you want and not settling for anything less.

Above all else producing the beyond expected results is a decision.
